Description

Once you arrive at Turrahus, we recommend that you visit the exhibition stable of the Safier Ställe association right next to the post bus stop before starting your hike. There you will find interesting information about the importance of the stables and the Walser scattered settlements, which characterize the landscape in the region.
You start your hike following the valley road back to Thalkirch. After a few minutes, leave the road and turn right over a bridge and follow the river to Thalkirch. Walking you will discover the typical Safi settlement landscape with the scattered houses on the left slope of the valley (sometimes also with free-standing ovens), stables, hay barns and alpine huts (called «Stupli»).
In Thalkirch it is worth visiting the small church. From the church, walk back along the valley road for a short distance and then follow the hiking trail, which takes its course immediately to the right after a residential building. Over a meadow you walk towards Bawald and a little later reach the enchanting forest, which would have many legends to tell. The path continues through the forest and over alpine pastures up to the Camaner huts. The view from up here is magnificent. They overlook almost the entire valley.
In Camanaboda you are in the highest year-round inhabited settlement of the valley. Here is also the Safier Heimatmuseum. Despite its small size, the "aalt Huus", as it is also called, has all the rooms used for the time and you can experience impressively how people used to live and work. It is open every second Sunday or by appointment.
From Camanabota, the path follows a section of the road before descending steeply to Safien Platz at the "Hof".
