Description
We wear the snowshoes a short distance on the winter hiking trail to the chapel Sontga Gada. From here we go down to the young Rhine, where we cross the water over a historic bridge. We take the ascent to Mompé Medel comfortably, because it is quite steep. Once in the village, we pack up the snowshoes briefly until we reach the bar La Scurslada. Continuing upwards, the landscape presents itself to us open and wide, sometimes we pass individual firs or birches, then again a Maiensäss. Before the hill stagias we share the ascent a bit with the sledders, so caution is advised. At the Academia Vivian we take a break, we lean against the warm wooden wall warmed up by the sun and see what our backpack has to offer. If it has a bottle of wine with it: all the better! Because we take our time in this beautiful place.
Downhill we follow the signs towards Mutschnengia, but we can also make our own tracks over the open field and whirl up the snow under our snowshoes. We make a short detour to the panoramic restaurant of the Hotel Cuntera in Mutschnengia. The village is still inhabited all year round and a short tour between the stables is worthwhile. Behind the last houses, an interesting suspension bridge spans the small valley. With packed snowshoes we hike on the cleared and little-used road to Curaglia, from where the Postbus takes us back to Disentis.
