Forno Hut - Piz dei Rossi - Maloja

The saddle on the Piz dei Rossi west ridge is reached from the Forno Hut via the lake at point 2751. Below the saddle, skis generally have to be carried on the back. The final ascent to the main summit runs just below the west ridge through the south flank of Piz dei Rossi and can be tricky depending on snow conditions. For this reason, the ascent usually stops at the saddle.

The descent initially leads through the short but steep north couloir of the saddle. After reaching the firn field of the Vadrec dei Rossi, you head towards the nicely inclined, often powdery slopes of point 2383, then gently veer east into the Val Muretto. Following the valley floor, you ride to Plan Canin and from there further to Maloja.
