Hidden Gem
Important: The yellow-marked descents of this route may only be ridden when open and with low avalanche risk.
If you want to be on the safe side or want to do the route in a group, we recommend joining the local mountain guides.
Please observe the valid operating times of the cable cars. The route is only rideable with good snow conditions and low avalanche risk. Check the snow situation and hazards with the avalanche bulletin, carry the necessary safety equipment, and respect the wildlife protection zones.
Safety Note
Those who venture off piste do so entirely at their own risk and outside the liability of the cable car operators. The yellow-marked freeride pistes are secured but neither prepared nor controlled. They are only to be used when open. We recommend checking the opened pistes, the SLF avalanche bulletin, and the weather forecast. All liability is excluded.
This freeride route is to be understood as a general directional guide. Depending on conditions, descent routes must be assessed and adjusted individually. No guarantee can be given for the correctness, completeness, or timeliness of the information.
Freeriding in open terrain is at your own risk. Every freerider and tour participant is strongly advised to prepare thoroughly, plan routes, and obtain current information on snow and avalanche conditions. Avalanche report and snow info: www.slf.ch
Any liability for accidents resulting from the use of the published information and route details is excluded.
In case of doubt, accompaniment by experienced mountain guides is strongly recommended: www.bergfuehrer-davosklosters.ch
Equipment
We recommend the Avalanche Training Center before the descent
At Jakobshorn near the Fuxägufer mountain station, you can practice the correct use of the avalanche transceiver (LVS) under realistic conditions. The training area consists of a zone of 100 x 100 m on moderately steep terrain, representing a realistic avalanche cone. Use of the training area is free of charge. You must bring your own LVS and avalanche probe.
Directions
Part 1: Jakobshorn – Mühle (The 1,000 meters of altitude)
The adventure starts at Jakobshorn. Just behind the Jatzhütte, the place to be for aprés-ski, the path to the "Mühli" descent branches off. First, the slope offers an open line in powder snow. Early risers are rewarded here. We recommend the first cable car ride at 8:15 am. From Mühli, bus number 8 runs hourly to Davos Platz, where you change to bus number 1 towards Glaris at the Spital station. In good snow conditions, you can snowshoe to Frauenkirch and take bus number 1 directly to the next station, Rinerhorn. More info at www.vbd.ch. A fare must be paid for the bus from the side valleys of Mühli-Davos Platz and from Teufi-Abzweigung Büelen. Otherwise, the bus network is included in the ski pass.
Part 2: Rinerhorn – Brand (The insider tip)
The black Brand piste leads from the Nülli ski lift to the Rinerhorn valley station and, at 7.8 km long, is the most difficult and longest descent with an altitude difference of over 1,000 meters. It is considered an insider tip, especially because it is unprepared in fresh snow and offers a beautiful descent through the Leidbachtal with views of the Leidbachhorn. Alternatively, the fixed yellow freeride piste no. 1 from the Juonli Lift is available. The bus takes you back to Jakobshorn.
Part 3: Jakobshorn – Teufi (The scenic run)
The piste from Jakobshorn to Teufi in the romantic Dischmatal valley makes every freerider's heart beat faster. The line runs through varied terrain that, thanks to the optimal northeast exposure, should have powder snow throughout the winter. From the destination Teufi, bus number 13 returns to Davos Dorf to the Parsennbahn.
Part 4: Parsenn – Weissfluhgipfel - Steinbock - Hauptertäli - Schifer Mittelstation - Höhenweg – Davos Dorf (Altitude run to finish)
The path takes you to the Weissfluhgipfel, where, in good weather, you can enjoy an incredible panoramic view at 2,844 m above sea level. You ski down the steep crest into the Hauptertäli. With the drag lift and an intermediate run to the Schifer Mittelstation, you go up to the Weissfluhjoch. With the new unprepared piste no. 10, you reach the valley descent to Davos Dorf, where the freeride adventure ends. Now a well-deserved drink awaits you at the Montana Bar in Davos Dorf.
