Details

Description

The high plateau between Danusa and Scära with its extensive, hilly landscape and a wonderful panoramic view is very suitable for snowshoe hikes.

By ascending via the prepared winter hiking trail, you save your energy even in fresh powder snow. On the plateau, you hike over snow-covered hills almost cut off from the rest of the world.

Hidden Gem

Enjoy the panoramic view over Prättigau on the descent between Scäri and Furna village while letting your soul relax.

Safety Note

The route is not signposted and runs through clear terrain. Map knowledge is required. Not secured against alpine hazards; snow and weather conditions must be clarified. For routes off marked and signposted areas, carrying safety equipment is generally recommended.

Do not confuse Scäri and Scära on the map!!!

Please respect the wildlife protection zone and stay on the designated route. Improper behavior can disturb wild animals, which can have fatal consequences for the animals in winter.

Equipment

Good footwear, functioning snowshoe equipment with poles, food and drink. Snowshoe equipment can be rented at the Hochwang guesthouse in Furna.

Directions

Walk along the prepared road from the village center towards the "Winter hiking trail" and follow it until you reach the Güfer. From there, walk along the cross-country ski trail to the Matta and turn left at the end of the slanted fence (wooden fence). Now follows an ascent in a southern direction to the Höhsäss. After traversing the sloping hillside on the Matta, you will see southwards to Scära. In a very wide right curve, you now walk over the high plateau, maintaining roughly the same elevation.

Continue walking until on your left side a long hollow (with several barns) opens with a view towards Klosters. Through this hollow, you walk towards Furna. The hollow keeps opening up wider, and you will arrive directly back into the village.
