Alpine hike from Tersol to the Pizol summit, over the Wildseeluggen to the Pizolhütte - with a magnificent view and the turquoise blue Wildsee as a highlight.
Details
Description
This impressive mountain hike begins at the Gigerwald dam or directly at the Gigerwald restaurant in the Calfeisental. The path first leads through the secluded valley towards Tersol, where the alpine ascent to the Pizol summit (2,844 m) begins. The summit offers a spectacular panoramic view over the Graubünden and Glarus Alps as well as the Rhine Valley.
After the summit experience, the tour continues to the Wildseeluggen, a striking crossing with a view of the turquoise-blue Wildsee, which is fed by the Pizol glacier. The scenery is rough, wild and fascinating – a real highlight of the tour.
The descent to the Pizolhütte leads through rocky terrain and offers impressive views again. The hike is demanding and requires good fitness and surefootedness, but rewards you with an unforgettable nature experience in the middle of the high alpine landscape of the Pizol region.
Hidden Gem
Start your hike comfortably by public transport from Bad Ragaz train station or directly at the valley station of the Pizolbahnen. From there you can take the post bus to the Calfeisen Valley to the starting point of the tour. So at the end of the hike, your car will already be in the right place for the journey home - practical and stress-free.
IMPORTANT: Choose the first bus connection of the day.

Directions
The hike begins at the imposing Gigerwald dam or at the nearby Gigerwald restaurant in the Calfeisental. From there, the path leads into the valley in the direction of Tersol. The path climbs steadily, past alpine meadows and through sparse mountain forest, until you reach Alp Tersol after about one and a half to two hours. Further into the valley, the challenging but rewarding ascent to the Pizol summit begins. The path leads over steep meadow slopes and scree fields, where surefootedness and good fitness are required.
At the top of the Pizol summit at 2,844 metres, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Sarganserland, the Rhine Valley and the surrounding Alps. After a short rest, the descent towards Wildseeluggen follows. The path leads through rocky terrain and opens up a spectacular view of the turquoise blue Wildsee, which is fed by the Pizol glacier.
From the Wildseeluggen, the trail continues downhill to the Pizolhütte, which is located at 2,227 metres. Here you can fortify yourself and enjoy the view before returning comfortably to the valley to Wangs with the chairlift and gondola.
