Description

The gran giro del lago alpine circular hiking trail is around 8 kilometers long and involves almost 700 meters of ascent and just as much descent. The hike takes about 4 to 6 hours for experienced alpine hikers. The route (T5) is partly exposed and often equipped with chains and iron steps. You should have a head for heights to enjoy the trail. In two places, glacial streams have to be crossed on narrow footbridges. The middle section in particular leads through pathless, bouldery terrain where sure-footed walking in difficult terrain is required. The route is marked blue and white. Chains are attached in most places where there is a risk of falling. For experienced and sure-footed alpine hikers, it is possible to walk the trail without a via ferrata set. Less experienced alpine hikers are better off equipping themselves with a climbing harness and via ferrata set for self-belaying.

Experienced alpine hikers are offered an adventurous route with constantly changing perspectives in a beautiful, wild and high alpine area. The Giro del Lago is suitable both as a day trip and as a somewhat more challenging variant of the "Sentiero Alpino Bregaglia" to go from the Capanna da l'Albigna over the Cacciabella Pass to the Capanna Sciora.
