Zwischenstopp am grössten Holzbrunnen Europas in Valendas
Today's tour shows us the diversity of the Surselva. Shortly after the start in Ilanz we cross the Vorderrhein and thus the language border for the first time. In the village of Sagogni, which was settled 2300 years ago, Romansh – our fourth national language – is spoken. The contrast? Here is also the golf course. Back on the right side of the river we also pass Europe's largest wooden fountain.

Description

From Ilanz, the route leads us to Sagogon (pronounced «Sagoin») - a sunny terrace in the valley floor. From here you go down on one of the last "main roads" with gravel surface to Valendas-Sagogn station. With the renewed crossing of the Rhine we cross the language border for the second time. In Valendas German is spoken - Walser German. From spring to autumn you can stop at the small pub at the train station. Small meals and drinks are served.

But be careful, after this break the crisp climb on the old Bahnhofstrasse to Valendas awaits us. After this short action we roll on the little-used road to Castrisch and pass language border again.

Now follows a section hardly frequented by tourists. The surface provides variety and shows why the gravel bike is the perfect vehicle: asphalt, gravel, concrete and a short single trail. Basically, you could end the tour here, but we opt for the additional loop via Polenweg, Rueun and Schnaus and thus for additional crossings of the language border.

Geheimtipp

This tour is an insider tip on the right side of the Vorderrhein and you cross the language border seven times. Where else can you find that? Only in the Surselva!
