Description
Start and finish are in Madulain, the smallest Upper Engadin community. From Madulain, the route leads southwest out of the village. At the end of the village, the circular route turns under the road bridge towards Chamues-ch to the church of San Andrea. It continues via the village square to the Chamuera stream and follows it to the Inn. Now the initial phase is over and the ascent towards the Albulapass begins. The path leads the first 500 m along the Albulapass road; turn left at the first curve off the road to follow the Albulabach (Ova d’Alvra in Rhaeto-Romanic). After about 800 meters, be careful to turn right in the middle of the meadow, ascending to the Albulastrasse. Follow the road for 200 meters before taking the hiking trail through the Arschaida forest. After a short climb and a relatively flat traverse, you arrive at the forest clearing Plaun Grand, where a signpost leads you to the right down to the castle ruin. From here, you can imagine the former bustle of this customs station on the way to and from the Albulapass and enjoy a view of the valley floor and the surrounding mountains before descending back to the village of Madulain.
