Description

Right after the start in Ilanz, the first steep climb awaits: on a gravel road, it goes up to Flond. Then it becomes a bit more leisurely – through quiet forest and woodland paths, the route continues to Surcuolm and finally up to the Bündner Rigi. After about 1000 meters of elevation, a break is more than deserved here: on the sun terrace of the restaurant of the same name, you can recharge your energy and enjoy the fantastic view of the Rhine Gorge and the surrounding peaks.

Refreshed, you then continue – through the forest and over open terrain down to the original villages Morissen and Vella. There begins the second, particularly scenic ascent: past the idyllic bathing lake Davos Munts, over the Maiensässes of the Lumnezia up to Alp Nova, the highest point of the route.

From here, a long, enjoyable descent into the valley awaits. Once at the bottom, you can roll back relaxed along the Vorderrhein to Ilanz – a perfect finish for this varied circular route.

Hidden Gem

  • Enjoy the panoramic view: Be sure to pause for a moment at the chapel Sogn Carli on the Bündner Rigi – the view of the Rhine Gorge is spectacular.

  • Refreshment at Davos Munts: Dip your feet in the water, quench your thirst – the idyllic bathing lake invites you to a short break.

  • Experience flow at Alp Stavonas: The combination of gravel trail and singletrail around the alp is a true highlight – both technically and scenically.

Safety Note

In case of uncertain weather conditions, the route should not be started. Weather changes in the mountains are frequent. If a rain front or similar approaches during the route, you should turn back in time.
