Description
The Pizol region is known for its breathtaking views across the St. Gallen Rhine Valley to Lake Constance. Nowhere else can you enjoy the view as undisturbed as on the highest peaks of the hiking area. The hike to the Gamidauerspitz is part of the Pizol summit quartet. The Garmil, Gamidauerspitz, Hochwart and Pizol stages can all be hiked independently of each other, but can also be combined as desired.
The famous, turquoise-blue Wildsee lake is embedded in stony scree, which now only hints at the presence of the former Pizol glacier. In the background, it is lined with the striking mountain peaks around the Pizol. On this tour, we experience the Wildsee and the crater from different angles. There is also an impressive view of the Schottensee, the Schwarzplangg, the Pizol summit and the Gaffara Valley, where up to 600 sheep graze in the summer months.

The route starts at the Pizolhütte on the Pizol high plateau. We take the gondola and chairlifts from Wangs via Furt and Gaffia to the Pizolhütte mountain station. From there, the ascent begins on the first part of the famous 5-lake hike in the direction of Wildseeluggen. Once we reach the gap, we enjoy a magnificent view of the Wildsee, the Pizol summit, the Grauen Hörner and the Hochwart. Now we leave the 5-lake hike and follow the white-red-white marked hiking trail to the left along the Wildsee in the direction of Batöni, Weisstannen, Unterlavtina. After a short time we reach the next fork. Here we follow the path towards Weisstannen. Over the moraines of the former Pizol glacier, we now climb a few more meters over stony terrain up to the Lavtina saddle, from where we have a fantastic view towards Lavtina and back to Wildseeluggen. Now follow the last few meters of altitude along the path on the right-hand side until you reach the Hochwart after about 10-15 minutes.
There are various possible combinations for the way back:
- Same way back
- Combinations with the summit quartet or the 5-lake hike
