The Lag da Pigniu reservoir lake is nestled in a magnificent rock basin. The waterfalls at the end of the lake, the often turquoise-colored water surface, and the good accessibility make this easy hiking excursion perfect.

Description
The starting point of this route is either the idyllic mountain village of Pigniu or – a bit shorter – the parking lot below the dam. Those starting directly at the dam save about two kilometers on the valley road.
Admittedly, there are more impressive dams – but the charm of this hike clearly lies in the landscape behind the dam crest. From here, the view opens onto the impressive rock walls framing the reservoir lake. A cozy gravel road leads to the far end of the lake. There you will find a nicely located barbecue area – ideal for a longer rest or a foot bath in the cool mountain water. Especially during snowmelt in early summer, the streams show their wild side here: fine water mist from the waterfalls sprays over the steep rock faces – an impressive natural spectacle.
The hike continues over the creek bridge and the beautiful hiking path along the western shore. If you missed the first fire pit, you get another opportunity for a barbecue fun at the end of the dam. The hiking path then leads a bit steeper down and back to Pigniu via a small road. Those who drove by car to the dam can either walk back via the dam crest to the car or down to the parking lot.
Hidden Gem
In spring, the bridge at the end of the lake is often still dismantled and the path not walkable. This route is then automatically closed.
The rating "stroller-friendly" is only accurate if you do not return via the west shore. The road from Pigniu and the eastern shore (gravel road) are suitable for strollers. Before the dam, it is preferable to take the access road to the dam crest and not the hiking path across the meadow.
Safety Note
In uncertain weather conditions, the route should not be started. Weather changes in the mountains are common. If a rain front or similar appears during the hike, you should turn back in time.
Equipment
Good hiking shoes with a good tread, weather-appropriate clothing (rain jacket), first aid kit, drink, provisions, possibly hiking poles
