Description

Where the Alp Santa Maria once stood with the first Marian hospice including chapel, there is now a reservoir.

We begin our hike at the dam crest. The following access road to Alpe Rondadura is ideal for warming up. From here we switch to a hiking trail that steadily and sometimes steeply leads upward. We hike through flower meadows and cross small streams. The mountain panorama is adorned with two three-thousand-meter peaks. On the Scopi stands a military radar station, which is accessible by an aerial cableway that is not for public use. During construction, the originally nine meters higher summit was leveled. The Piz Rondadura closes the little valley at 3016 meters in the southwest.

In front of us a bubbling mountain stream indicates where the lake might be, but it hides until the last moment, as it lies nicely set in a hollow. It can also be circumnavigated over sticks and stones. Or those who are not afraid of cold water can take a short bath.

Currently, work is underway on the gallery next to the reservoir crest. The hike can also be started at Alp Stgegia. Status July 2024

Hidden Gem

Just west of the lake, there are two more small and pretty little lakes. The path to them is not marked.
