Description

Arosa Bear Sanctuary is an experience for young and old. The Arosa Bear Sanctuary gives bears that have been rescued from poor husbandry conditions a species-appropriate home. Bears that previously had to live chained up in a tiny, dirty cage are rescued by FOUR PAWS from this unfortunate situation and brought to Arosa.

In the midst of the natural mountain landscape with pastures, bushes, rocks, streams and forest, the bears can learn their natural behavior. And visitors can watch them do so.

The journey from Lenzerheide to Arosa Bear Sanctuary is shortened by the use of numerous cable cars and chairlifts, making it easy for families.

Hidden Gem

The return journey from Arosa to Lenzerheide can be made with the special Bärenland carriage of the RHB or with the mountain railroads, taking into account the operating times.

Equipment

  • Hiking boots
  • Mountain railway tickets
  • Clothing suitable for the weather

Directions

You start in Lenzerheide at the Rothornbahn. From there, take the Rothorn 1 up to the Scharmoin middle station, followed by a fairly flat fifteen-minute walk to the valley station of the Weisshornspeed chairlift, which now also transports guests in summer. Once at the mountain station, a second short hike follows to Urdenfürggli, where the next cable car is already waiting: the Urdenbahn. The Urdenbahn takes you quickly up to Hörnli, from where the Hörnli-Express cable car takes you to Inner Arosa.

Now you can either walk through the village or take the local bus to the Weisshornbahn valley station. The last gondola ride follows. The Arosa Weisshorn cable car takes you to Arosa Bärenland. There is a great playground and a visitor platform.

You can either walk back to Arosa station or take the gondola again.

The return journey can be made in exactly the opposite direction or you can travel by RHB to Chur and from there by post bus back to Lenzerheide.
