Toboggan fun on the Schatzalp

From the Schatzalp, which can easily be reached by funicular railway from Davos Platz, the trail leads past the Strelaalp restaurant and onward through the highest fir forests and centuries-old larch trees across a moderately steep slope through Alpine meadows to the former valley station of the ski lift. The terrain becomes more level above the station and, in no time, you will arrive at the mountain restaurant at the Strela Pass. From here, the Panorama Trail continues almost level at an altitude of 2300 m.a.s.l. to the Parsennhütte mountain lodge. This simply has to be one of the most rewarding and comfortable hikes of all. The trail then follows a good path down to the Wolfgang Pass via Stützalp.

Schatzalp
The car-free Schatzalp lies on a sun-kissed terrace, 300 metres high above Davos, which can be reached with ease on the funicular railway. Definitely make a point of visiting the Art Nouveau styled Schatzalp Hotel. The former Sanatorium has been run as a hotel for over 50 years. The best-selling author, Thomas Mann, was inspired to write his novel «The Magic Mountain», published in 1924, while staying here.
Be sure to make a short detour to visit the Schatzalp Alpinum to admire over 1,300 different species of plant grown there

Strela Pass
As has been documented, the Strela Pass was crossed in centuries gone by. A simple shelter once stood here, which was converted into the mountain-top restaurant in 1937. The name «Strela» is mentioned for the first time in 1338 and is derived from the Latin «striga» meaning witch.

Panorama Trail
This trail connects the Strela Pass to the Parsennhütte mountain restaurant. Savour the magnificent views over the Davos countryside.

Parsennhütte mountain restaurant
The Parsennhütte mountain restaurant is owned by the Ski Club of Davos. The first building was opened in 1906 and that very same winter destroyed by an avalanche. The building was rebuilt in a safer location later that same year. The Parsennhütte serves refreshments, light snacks and grilled sausages in good weather and, at all other times, a snack vending machine is available.

Stützalp
The word «Stütz» is thought to mean the ascent of a path or a road. Here it means the ascent of the Stützalp road from the Schwendi (Wolfgang) up to the Stützalp. Over a distance of only 700 metres (as the crow flies), this alpine road nevertheless covers a difference in height of 220 metres.

Wolfgang
The name Wolfgang is derived from «vulfa» meaning wolf. As is well known, wolves were native to Davos many years ago. It therefore cannot be ruled out that the name Wolfgang is related to this. Today the Wolfgang is a well-known pass.
The Rhaetian Railway station was built at the same time as the Klosters - Davos section of the railway in 1890. The trains stop on request. You can also return to Davos by bus.
