The cowbells grow quieter, the landscape rougher, with every step we climb higher. Rugged and rustic is the landscape at the Laiets, dominated by Piz Ela.

Description
Along the mountain stream Ragn d’Err, the path leads downstream. At point 2026, we turn towards Pass d’Ela, the water-rich Ragn da Cotschna. At the back of the valley basin, we face the steep step that separates us from the beautiful Laiets, hidden at the foot of Piz Ela. The path now winds upwards in tight switchbacks. The ground is sparse. But those who are not completely out of breath discover here the furry edelweiss – the queen of the Alpine flowers. After about 360 meters of elevation gain, the lakes finally appear. Taking a dip in the Lai Mort is a must – at least with your feet. Between the lakes, on the scree, the hiking trail is not well defined. White-red-white markings help not to lose orientation. Before the third mountain, in the hollow between Pizza Grossa and Cotschen, the path swings wide on the way to Pass d’Ela. The eye can hardly get enough: At the feet blooms the long-spurred violet in the brightly white limestone or yellow dolomite rock.
