Piz Cam (oua_8343007_4439875_profile)
Piz Cam is not a particularly high peak, but thanks to its location it offers a very beautiful view of the Engadine lakes, down into Bergell and of the peaks of the Albigna and Sciora group.

Details

Description

The small village of Roticcio is located at the entrance to Val Furcela, a small but scenic valley. Via the Furcela crossing, you reach the Val da Cam, a gentle valley between the Piz Duan and the less mighty Piz Cam. The last part of the ascent to Piz Cam is pathless.

Geheimtipp

It is possible to return to Roticcio by doing a circular route through the Val Maroz and the village of Casaccia. Those who opt for this solution will have to descend from the Furcela Pass towards Val di Cam and shortly afterwards meet the path that climbs from the Maroz Valley.

Sicherheitshinweis

The last part of the route is not signed, be careful!

Directions

We begin the ascent on a small road that leads up in bends across the meadows behind Roticcio. After a short while we meet the footpath that climbs in a direct line to the huts of Nambrun (1611 m). For the next 300 m in altitude, the path climbs northwards along the pasture of Alp Furcela before crossing the slope to the west at about 1900 m. It continues northeast on a ridgeline to a large building. Heading northwest, it passes under the pre-peak of the Pizzi di Maroz and descends over a small pass into the Val da Cam.

To climb Piz Cam, we round the steep foothill of rock and grass that rises on the left side of the pass. We descend a short distance towards Val da Cam, then ascend more comfortably along the flat ridge that advances towards the south. Calmly and with the best panoramic views, we stride along the broad ridge, master a few small saddles and reach the southern edge of the ridge, and thus the top of Piz Cam (2633 m, about 1 hour from the pass).

On the way back we have several options. Either we take the same route. Or we follow the trail southwest to Plan Lo and then decide whether to descend to Roticcio, Vicosoprano or Soglio. Or we go north-east and descend through Val Maroz to Casaccia.
