Description

The hike starts in the village of Andeer and first leads through the grounds of the Conrad granite works, where the striking Rofna porphyry is processed - better known as the characteristic Andeer granite. Soon you are immersed in quiet forest passages, accompanied by fascinating glacier cuts and the mysterious shell stones of Arsiert - mysterious signs of a bygone era that invite you to marvel and pause.

A first view opens up over the Schams valley before descending to the thundering Roffla Gorge. The imposing waterfall was developed for tourism by Andeer returnee Christian Pitschen - inspired by the Niagara Falls. If you like, you can visit the small museum inside the rock.

After a short section along the A13, you pass the historic Schmelza, where ores were once smelted. Soon after, the bouldering paradise Magic Wood beckons: moss-covered boulders in a fairytale forest, enlivened by international climbers.

It gets quieter at the forest clearing Pro sur Ragn. Two footbridges and a narrow bridge lead to the idyllic Ausserferrera (1300 m). Here, the Gasthaus Edelweiss surprises with fine local and Greek cuisine.

The last section leads through sparse mountain pine forest, past a power plant and spectacular glacier mills, before reaching the highest point at about 1500 m. From there, a gentle descent to Innerferrera, where the stage ends in alpine tranquility.

Hidden Gem

Roffla Gorge & Museum: A detour to the spectacular gorge and the gallery behind the waterfall is worthwhile. The small museum tells the exciting story of Christian Pitschen.

Safety Note

A head for heights required (bridges).

The route then leads from the Rofflaschlucht inn through a quarry, over the Parsagna bridge, above the inn, over the cantonal road and the gallery roof of the A13. At the Schmelza (1238 m) past old industrial plants and on to the suspension bridge.

Through the Magic Wood area, in two loops to the forest clearing Pro sur Ragn. Optional turn-off to Ausserferrera, otherwise continue on the circular route over two footbridges in Val Nursèra and a bridge over the Ragn da Ferrera. From there up to the village of Ausserferrera (1300 m).
