Details
Description
The characteristic attraction is the moorland landscape alternating between dry and wet areas. In early summer, you can see carpets of the most beautiful marsh orchids (Vital, 2009). The floral display in summer up to Mattjischhorn is extraordinarily diverse. The view back from Blackterfürggli towards Fondei is also fantastic. At Zaluënja, there is a short resting place with a table and bench. The landscape is shaped by small hay barns, which are mostly no longer functional today. For many centuries, the mountain meadows on the Hochwang ridge up to over 2000 m above sea level have been farmed by the Schanfigg farmers; thanks to federal contributions, this is still the case today. The mountain hay is considered particularly nutritious. Only above Peist and Langwies are the pasture areas used as alpine pasture. Those who prefer to be pampered at Skihaus Hochwang above St. Peter can enjoy the beautiful view from the terrace.
