Description
The starting point for this hike is Pontresina railroad station. It can also be reached by car (parking spaces available) and by public transport. To the left of Pontresina station, the trail climbs through sparse forest interspersed with Swiss stone pines and larches to the plateau of Alp Staz. An unexpected clearing opens up here and game can often be spotted.
From here, the trail leads fairly steeply uphill through the old Swiss stone pine and larch forest to Muottas da Schlarigna (2305m).
A magnificent panoramic view of the long Pontresina with its traditional hotel buildings makes up for the effort of the ascent. This point also offers a view of the protective dam built above Pontresina in 2003. It is interesting to see the individual dams and catch basins from above. The structure provides protection against avalanches and landslides.
The route continues along the tree line with wonderful views of the Upper Engadin lake landscape. The descent on a gently sloping path, past bush-covered slopes and through mountain forest down to St. Moritz Bad is pleasant and easy to manage.
Geheimtipp
At the fork in the path down Alp Staz, there is a thousand-year-old Swiss stone pine below the bench. There are more old Swiss stone pines in the immediate vicinity.
