Ski route to the Güner Lückli in the Safiental
Show all 7 images
The Güner Lückli used to be an important mountain pass for the Walser in the Safiental. It was one of the few summer crossings to the outside world. Today, the route can be undertaken year-round for leisure. We describe here an easy and frequently traveled ski route in the middle Safiental. However, in the lonely Safiental, frequent travel does not mean mass ski tourism.

Description
With 1,200 meters of ascent, this is already a "decent" ski route. The route is often done from the hamlet of Gün. This route, which is about 250 meters shorter, is manageable for the well-trained. However, it is no longer possible by public transport. The road to Gün can be challenging in winter.
We start the route from the valley road and have to skin steeply at the beginning. The view into the mountain world becomes more impressive with every step at the height of the Gün farm. The Güner huts await us at just under 2,000 meters above sea level. By now, a break at a warm hut wall is essential. The route continues over the broad shoulder to a very small hut. The snow along the ridge is often blown away by the wind, which does not prevent us from skinning up to below the steep final slope. The summit slope, about 33 degrees steep, is often filled with wind-drifted snow. Under safe conditions, it is definitely worth it, as the reward comes in the form of an incredible panoramic view. The deep view into the west side, which is not accessible in winter, is "not bad" either.
For the descent, we provide a small variant that is nevertheless freely chooseable. The broad slopes allow many variations with countless turns.
Hidden Gem
Under mild conditions, be sure to start early, as the final slope is often filled with wind-drifted snow and becomes unsafe when warm. Assessing this single slope is important in any case.
The shoulder between the Güner huts and the summit slope is often scoured and therefore mostly unsuitable for the descent. The recommended slopes are clearly better. It is also possible to turn back to the ascent route before the forest patch above Gün (approx. 1900 meters above sea level).
Safety Note
Ski and snowshoe tours in unsecured terrain require good knowledge of avalanche risk assessment and tour planning. Furthermore, a complete safety kit must always be carried – regardless of the current avalanche risk.
For preparation and planning of the tour, we recommend the WhiteRisk app and website WhiteRisk.
For carefree enjoyment, we recommend our mountain guides and snowshoe walking leaders from Surselva.
