The Güner Lückli was once an important mountain pass for the Walser people in the Safiental, one of the few summer crossings to the outside world. Today, the tour can be undertaken year-round during your free time. Here, we describe an easy and frequently followed ski tour in the middle Safiental. However, "frequently" in the secluded Safiental still doesn’t mean mass tourism by any means.

Description

With 1200 meters of elevation gain, this is already a "decent" ski tour. Often, the tour starts from the hamlet of Gün, which is about 250 meters shorter and manageable for well-trained individuals. However, it’s no longer accessible by public transport, and the road to Gün can be challenging in winter.

We begin the tour from the valley road, where we initially climb steeply. As we reach the Gün farm, the views of the surrounding mountains grow more impressive with each step. At just under 2000 meters, the Güner Hütten await us, offering a perfect spot for a break by a warm hut wall. From here, the route continues up a wide shoulder to a tiny hut. The snow on the ridge is often wind-blown, but that doesn’t stop us from making our way under the steep final slope. The summit slope, with an incline of about 33 degrees, is often filled with wind-drifted snow. But in safe conditions, it’s definitely worth it, as the reward is breathtaking panoramic views. The deep view into the western side, which is inaccessible for skiing in winter, is also quite impressive.

For the descent, we offer a small variation, but it’s open to your choice. The wide slopes allow for many variations with countless turns.

Geheimtipp

In mild conditions, it’s essential to start early, as the final slope is often filled with wind-drifted snow and becomes unstable in warmer temperatures. Evaluating this particular slope is crucial in any case.

The shoulder between the Güner Hütten and the summit slope is often wind-blown and usually not suitable for descent. The recommended slopes are much better. Before the forest area above Gün (around 1900 meters above sea level), you can also rejoin the ascent route for the descent.

Sicherheitshinweis

Ski and snowshoe tours in unprotected terrain require solid knowledge in assessing avalanche danger and planning the tour. Additionally, a complete safety kit must always be carried, regardless of the current avalanche risk.

We recommend using the WhiteRisk app and website for preparation and tour planning.

For carefree enjoyment, we suggest our mountain guides and snowshoe guides from Surselva.
