Description
We start our route in the pretty hamlet of Soliva, which is now inhabited year-round by only one person. We follow the snow-covered road, which winds upward in wide hairpin bends and is mostly easy to see, as this south-facing slope rarely has much snow. During the ascent, we repeatedly take time to look down the valley towards Lukmanierpass. The houses of Soliva and Cuiraglia become smaller and smaller. Birches line the path in places, and in Mises dil Plaun well-maintained mountain pastures huddle under the weight of the snow. Towards the west, we get a view into Val Tujetsch with Sedrun and up to Oberalppass. Further up, in Fontauna Rodunda, we find a nice spot in front of one of the mountain pastures and have a picnic. The mountain range before us is impressive: the mighty Piz Muraun has an almost majestic presence, and the Medel chain, which closes the Val Plattas, is very imposing with its glacier. On the way back, we mostly follow the ascent track, but sometimes we can also stir the snow up over the open field.
Hidden Gem
An asphalt road leads to Soliva. The slopes above Soliva are very sunny and can be almost snow-free in between.
Directions
From Soliva, we follow the road with several hairpin bends to Mises dil Plaun and Fontauna Rodunda, mostly on a well-visible snow-covered road. We turn back before the forest begins.
