Sicht talauswärts zum Tällihorn und Günerhorn

Under safe conditions, the Strätscherhorn is a fairly easy ski route in the very back of the Safien valley. The mountain landscape here is very special. The steep slopes of the Gelbhorn and Bruschghorn on the opposite side of the valley shape the scenery in a very impressive way. The views from the summit are beautiful regardless.

Description

Immediately behind Turrahus the route starts quite steeply until the terrain becomes somewhat flatter at the crossing above the Falätscher hut. The terrain at about 2200 m above sea level becomes briefly more demanding. A good and safe route choice is important here. At about 2400 m above sea level, one comes like out of a gully onto a high plateau. This now leads from behind to the flat summit of the Strätscherhorn.

The descent leads over the often windblown, wide slope towards the east. With some luck, you catch a few sheltered gullies filled with powder. At an altitude of about 2300 meters above sea level, you leave the ridge and ski into the often powdery northeast slopes. It is very important to pay attention to the wild animal resting zones in the lower part here. There is only a narrow passage that you must catch. At the compensation basin, you return to the valley floor and now first follow the winter hiking path, then the valley road back to Turrahus.

Safety Note

Ski and snowshoe routes in unsecured terrain require good knowledge in avalanche risk assessment and route planning. Furthermore, a complete safety gear must always be carried - regardless of the current avalanche danger.

We recommend preparing and planning the route with the app and website of WhiteRisk.

For an enjoyable experience, we recommend our mountain guides and snowshoe hiking leaders in Surselva.
