Sulzfluh via ferrata, St. Antönien

Show all 13 images

The "classic via ferrata" in the Rätikon leads at the back of the valley of St. Antönien through the south face to the summit of the 2817 m high Sulzfluh. The alpine route impresses with lots of rock contact and requires good fitness. Demanding and quite long route. Some strenuous steep sections and very airy traverses. Beautiful summit route for experienced via ferrata climbers.
Please note: Detour due to construction & maintenance work
Due to the renovation of the Carschineralpbach bridge and resulting thunderstorm damage, the hiking trail is closed from Hinter Zug / Chüeschärmen to Schlosseri. A detour via the road is signposted and valid until 22.05.2026. Thank you for your understanding.

Description
The approach from parking lot P6 takes about 1.5 hours. With the alpine bus (reservation required), this can be shortened by a ride to the Berghaus Alpenrösli. Well-signposted hiking trails and shortly before the start over a path through the scree lead to the Sulzfluh via ferrata.
The lower part consists of stepped rock with several short steep passages. Almost at the beginning of the route is the entry ladder to overcome the "entry wall." This is a first small challenge and gives the climber the opportunity to assess themselves. Then follows the "Obelix traverse" and up to the start of the ramp. From here, there is no exit possibility!
After climbing the "ramp," you reach the "Goat's Back" and finally the "Bench." Middle of the route. Then follows a longer traverse over a grassy ledge before the entry to the "Panoramica," where the second, steeper part begins. Especially impressive are the traverses on the almost vertical slab shots. Fascinating views downwards. Crossing the "Deichmann bridge" requires balance. After signing the wall book, it continues over a small upslope until the entry to the "Wall of Lament" is reached. This is the most physically demanding part of the route and leads to a short "bridge" that guides the climber into the "summit wall." Now you've made it!
After a small contribution to the maintenance fund, it takes only a few minutes to reach the summit cross of Sulzfluh at 2817 m above sea level. Wonderful panoramic view, earned through physical effort. Who knows them all—the valleys, ridges, summits...
