Description

We are not intimidated by the might of the mountain and look forward to a challenging mountain day. Our hike begins in the Val Plattas near Pardatsch, from where we head towards Val Muraun and Alp Cazirauns. At Fuorcla da Vallesa, we leave the marked trail and ascend the south ridge to the summit. At the top, the broad summit surprises us with proud stone cairns. Nothing dims the view.

We cross the summit and descend northward first over rocky slabs, then over more or less slippery terrain along the north ridge to Muraun Pign. There are some old trail markings, but they are quite faded. We follow trail traces leading down to the left of Muraun Pign until we have to cross a small valley. We search for a path on cattle trails diagonally across the meadows towards Alp Soliva. The last part of the hike leads us through forests and meadows to Masauna and further into Val Muraun until we reach the starting point Pardatsch.

Variant: Drive from Curaglia to Soliva by car. Take the direct path to the summit and the same path back. Time saved: approximately 1 hour

Hidden Gem

At the municipality of Medel or in the hotels of Curaglia, a driving permit can be obtained up to Pardatsch

Safety Note

The north ridge is partly slippery and exposed.

The crossing is not part of the marked hiking trail network and is not maintained. However, some old markings are still present.

Equipment

Good footwear and orientation skills are required. Poles are helpful during the descent.

Directions

From the parking lot in Pardatsch, we follow the hiking signposts towards Pardatsch and past the alpine dairies to Val Muraun. Before the stream, we turn right to Fuorcla da Vallesa. At this pass, we leave the marked trail heading north and follow the ridge, which is more or less rocky, up to the summit. At the northeastern end of the summit, the descent begins via the north ridge to the small saddle between Piz Muraun and Muraun Pign. Trail signs lead down to the left, which we follow. A little further down, we keep slightly right and stay approximately at the elevation of 2437 meters. Once we have crossed the northernmost gully, we continue on sight towards Alp Soliva. Here we meet the marked hiking trail again, which leads down to Curaglia. We follow it until just before the forest, where a mountain hut stands to the left. We turn left here onto another marked hiking trail, pass the hut, cross two small valleys until we reach the next junction. We keep left again. Two more small valleys follow, after which we find another junction. We take the path left again, which leads us to the bridge in Val Muraun. Immediately afterwards, we reach the hiking trail we took at the beginning. Now it is only a few minutes back to Pardatsch.
