Ustria Steila Siat

The Surselva hut route starts in the center of Flims. However, the ideal base for the three-day circular route is the town of Chur, from where you take the Postbus up to Flims. Bicycle transport on the Postbuses in Graubünden is possible; the buses have a rear rack for up to five bicycles.

Description

The stage starts in Flims right away with two highlights: the idyllic Caumasee and the viewing platform in Conn. Caumasee is considered one of the most popular swimming lakes in Graubünden, and from the spectacular viewing platform, there is an exceptional view down into the Rhine Gorge. After Conn, you climb up on the south side of the ridge to Laax Murschetg and then mostly follow gravel roads along the signposted mountain bike route to Falera. Here is the starting point for the climb to Alp Dadens. 500 meters of ascent on gravel road lead up to Alp Dadens; after that, the route continues on a trail, climbing relentlessly for a short time. An additional 150 meters of elevation must be managed this way until the highest point is reached just below Alp da Schnaus. A mix of singletrails and gravel roads then leads deep into Val da Siat, with another 100 meters of ascent near the end of the stage up to the village of Siat. Here, the aperitif at Ustria Staila is well deserved.

Hidden Gem

Instead of climbing from Laax up to Alp Dadens under your own power, you take the gondola from Laax Murschetg to Crap Sogn Gion, then climb up under your own power to Crap Masegn and enter the well-known singletrail descent over Crest da Tiarms down to Alp Schnaus. This leads you from above into the descent of the original route. The trail is fun, varied, but at times also challenging. There is even a short rocky section on the ridge where you have to carry the bike. E-bikers therefore preferably choose the original route.
