Details
Description
The suggested route leads over the Belvedere Tower, which stands directly at the edge descending into Bergell and offers a spectacular view into the valley. During the summer months, Pronatura presents exhibitions in the tower about the landscape history of Maloja and about changing contemporary topics. A bit of landscape history can be admired "live" in the stone pine forest between Maloja and the tower – there are several well-preserved glacial mills that remind of the glacial shaping of the landscape.
Although the Malögin is quite steep, especially at the beginning, wheel tracks have been imprinted into the rock at some points – a sign that the path was probably also used by carts in the past. Below the Maloja Pass, the path (now more comfortable) leads past the ruins of the San Gaudenzio church and the "Torre" above Casaccia.
Path closure
Until the end of summer 2025, the section at San Gaudenzio is closed and must be bypassed with a detour north of the ruins. This extends the hike by about 30 minutes and 60 additional meters of elevation...

Directions
50 m south of the information point in Maloja, turn into the driveway to the Belvedere Tower. The glacial mills are located along the path and can be viewed from several side paths. From the viewpoint at the tower, a trail leads along the base of the rocks down to a marshy plateau. Here, continue to the right along the watercourse and cross it. Following the steep path, go down through the forest, cross the mountain stream, and reach the Cavril plateau.
Stay on the footpath, which runs parallel to the road and leads to the remains of the ancient San Guadenzio church. Next, cross another watercourse called "la Canaleta," and on a well-worn footpath ascend the steep meadows above the houses of Casaccia. At the end of the path, you reach the ruins of the ancient "Torre," from where you can overlook the Maloja Tower as well as the entire hike so far. A final short descent leads directly to the village center of Casaccia.
