Directions
From the square north of the church, go up the village street to above the village. From there, the path leads steeply, stonily, and almost straight up the slope in a southeast direction north of a small creek. After crossing a farm road, you ascend the slope covered with light stones under the Wissflua in some steep hairpin bends. The path now becomes less steep and leads northeast through shrubs and coniferous forest, then in steep bends to the height of the Maiensäss Riefa (1642 m).
You continue hiking on the alpine trail, through the Riefawald forest below the Horn, and after numerous bends reach Pradätsch (1953 m). Beautiful view downstream to the Tödikette and upstream to Zerfreila and numerous peaks of the Adula massif. Gently ascending on the path leading into the Tomül valley, you reach the Riedboda (2030 m). Crystal-clear water (Tomülbach), cotton grass, and lush meadows make the charm of Riedboda. From this valley floor, the path climbs the valley slope, the so-called Lochli. Over a delicate stone-arched bridge, we cross the creek flowing out of the Chli-Tomül to the Stafel of Alp Tomül (2179 m).
From the alpine huts, it goes northeast on the pass trail to the creek flowing down from the Tomül pass. This is crossed, and then the path follows to the Tomül pass (2450 m), which forms the boundary of the municipality of Vals. On a good path, you reach from the pass over alpine pastures and meadows with an easy hike over Alp Falätscha to the Turrahus in the Safien valley. Return is either on the same pass trail or via Safien-Turrahus with the PostAuto to Versam, then by train to Ilanz and the PostAuto back to Vals.
