Description
We hike to the valley station of the Vättnerbergbahn, which was built in 1931 by the Alpkorporation Vättis. From here you can easily reach the Vättnerberg by gondola. But we follow the hiking trail out of the valley, cross the Radeinbach and climb through beautiful forests and over lush alpine meadows up to the Vättnerberg. A great view rewards us: The Calanda presents itself from its most beautiful side, on its left to the east the view sweeps to Austria and the Silvretta area, to the south over the Kunkelspass with the peaks behind it.
Along the alpine road we hike to the Tritt. Like other settlements in this area, the farmsteads on the Vättnerberg belong to a former Walser settlement. We turn off to the Radeintobel, then our way climbs again to Alp Ladils. Here you have a beautiful view of the famous Drachenloch and the Ringelspitz behind it, the highest St.Gallen mountain. In summer, Alp Ladils is farmed. We follow the path to the south, down to Vättis. With a little luck, wildlife observations are possible here. This narrow, at times steep and rocky path used to be used to bring the cheese from Alp Ladils to the valley on wooden sledges. At the avalanche barrier in the Kreuzbachtobel is the geologically interesting Vättner window. Here, primordial rock comes to light, a rare phenomenon. Before we make our way home, a visit to the Dragon Hole Museum is worthwhile.
