Description

The hike takes you from Ilanz up to the culturally significant Ruschein. The church hill was already a cult and sacrifice site in pagan times. On the old connecting road, you reach Ladir. Above Ladir, a forest path leads towards Siat.

Ladir, Ruschein, and Siat lie high above the valley floor and offer views of the surrounding mountain world.

On this first stage of the Via Glion, newly designed information boards invite you to pause and discover. Each of the thirteen boards conveys interesting facts about history, culture, or local characteristics. Anna Catrina, the fictional daughter of Ilanz, accompanies the hikers with charming stories in German and Romansh. Audioclips can be activated via QR codes, providing entertaining information about places, buildings, and people along the route. Two panorama boards enhance the experience with impressive views and explanations of the surrounding landscape.

Hidden Gem

In Ruschein, the village shop is also a café. The perfect place to take a breather after the steep climb.

In Ladir, the restaurant La Terrassa invites you to take a break. As the name suggests, the restaurant has a magnificent terrace.

In Siat, you will find the restaurant "Ustria Steila", built by the well-known Graubünden architect Gion A. Caminada.

Safety Note

The route should not be started in uncertain weather conditions. Weather changes in the mountains are frequent. If a rain front or similar develops during the hike, you should turn back in time.
