Details
Description
The first stage leads through the Domleschg, past Sils i.D., Scharans, Almens and Tomils to Rothenbrunnen. The diverse cultural landscape of the Domleschg is characterized by high-stem fruit orchards, hedges, dry stone walls, and especially by its castles and palaces. From Rothenbrunnen, the route follows the Hinterrhein back to Thusis. From there, it continues along the traffic-free Viamala path to the impressive Viamala Gorge, an imposing natural monument. Deep below, the Hinterrhein winds through the gorge. Despite many obstacles, this route was from the 14th century the best access to the Splügen Pass and formed the shortest north-south alpine crossing. The route continues to Zillis, where the noteworthy Church of St. Martin from the 12th century with its unique ceiling painting is located. Then the route leisurely continues through Donat and Clugin to Andeer.
Hidden Gem
After your bike ride, the Mineral Bath Andeer is the perfect place to enjoy a well-deserved rest and recharge your energy.
Safety Note
The route from Thusis to the Viamala Gorge goes through busy road tunnels that are not well lit and unclear. For your own safety, we recommend fitting front and rear bike lights for these sections.
Equipment
An e-mountain bike is recommended.
