The church is the structural heart of the village and its distant courtyards. It is surrounded by historic houses and fountains.

Description

As the building presents itself today, it dates from 1481 and the church was first mentioned in 1384. According to archaeological excavations, there was probably already a church there in pre-Romanesque times or even at the time of the Carolingians, i.e. more than 1000 years ago. In the period after the Reformation, a very drastic event occurred for the community: in 1594, 430 people from the parish of Valendas (Versam with the farms of Fahn, Arezen and Calörtsch) died of the plague. The area previously had about 600 inhabitants. A memorial stone to the right of the entrance door commemorates this terrible time.

The Gothic choir with the octagonal baptismal font from the 15th century is striking. The pulpit under the keel arch provides the connection between the choir and the nave. It is believed to have come from the hand of a master from the carpentry dynasty Bonadurer from Arezen (Versam).

Originally, it stood on the other side - part of the year is therefore obscured. In the corners of the nave on both sides of the choir entrance, remains of the pre-Gothic nave were discovered during earlier renovations. These indicate that the former ship was almost two meters narrower than the present one.
