Flysch by Weisstannen
The especially pronounced flysch thrusts in the Weisstannental are a geological hotspot.
Description
On the way along the Sardona World Heritage Trail, the mountain flanks near Weisstannen are composed of flysch rock. The rock faces consist mainly of harder layers of sand and limestone, the more gently sloping slopes in between are made of softer shale. Flysch rock is a deposit of a former deep ocean.
