Jooshuus, Valendas

The mountain village of Valendas has had an exciting history, making it a showpiece of successful village renewal today. Various waves of emigration and the associated depopulation led to decades of stagnant development. Thanks to the efforts of committed residents, the Valendas Impuls association and foundation and the support of many people and institutions, Valendas has reinvented itself in recent years. The population is growing and the houses and squares are filling with life again.

The townscape of national importance with its stately patrician houses, the imposing historic wooden fountain and the well-preserved historic buildings impressively illustrate the village's eventful history. The permanent exhibition “Valendas - An exhibition on the development and history of the village” invites locals and visitors to learn more about life and work in Valendas in the stable of the historic Jooshuus and to understand how the village was successfully revived.
