From a chapel to Rabius – with the title St. Maria – we learn for the first time during the visitation of 1643. In the years 1677-1679, the inhabitants of Rabius built a solid church with three altars as a chapel of the mother parish of Sumvitg.

Description

In 1724, the artist Jakob Rieg painted the interior of the church with sacred paintings. In the village fire of March 1886, the church was badly damaged. In 1901 Rabius broke away from the parish of Sumvitg and became an independent parish. In 1928, larger parts of the old church were demolished for a new building. Only the west façade and the tower remained. In 1966, the pictures of the church were painted over with white paint. In 2001, the parish of Rabius carried out a renovation. The two side altars were removed and the whole church painted white. In 2016, a new roof covering in copper was carried out and in 2017 a complete expert interior renovation took place with the involvement of the preservation of historical monuments. The two side altars returned to their original place.
