Nature spectacle at Lake Walen

Description

The Seerenbach Falls near Betlis on Lake Walen form a cascade of three waterfalls with a total height of 585 m. In the gorge, where the Seerenbach Falls plunge imposingly into the depths, the Rin Spring also comes to light. From an underground cave system considerable water masses pour into a 22 meter deep abyss. At 305 metres, the Seerenbach Falls in Betlis is one of the highest waterfalls in Switzerland.
At the beginning of the 20th century, researchers began to study the source and the branched cave system. Various expeditions with diving equipment explored the Rin Cave and advanced over 1000 meters into the interior of the mountain. A tunnel leading outwards serves as a flood overflow of the underground river system after rainy periods and during the melting of the snow. About 3000 meters from the cave entrance there is a turnoff where water disappears into the mountain interior. Where to? That will probably remain a secret!
The Seerenbach waterfall can be reached on foot in about 20 minutes from the Betlis landing stage. The turnoff to the viewing platform is on the popular hiking trail from Weesen to Quinten.
