Adventsspiel: Die Erfindung des Adventskranzes

Hamburg, in the middle of the 19th century:
Industrialization promotes prosperity and poverty in equal measure. Especially children of poor families live in large numbers on the streets,
neglected in the cold and darkness. The pastor and social pedagogue Johann Hinrich Wichern founded the "Rauhe Haus" for them, where these children received shelter, warmth, food, clothes and schooling. To explain the way to Christmas to the children, Wichern places a large wagon wheel in the "Rough House" and decorates it with 24 candles, 4 large ones for the Advent Sundays and 20 small ones for the working days in between – and thus invents the Advent wreath, which still leads people around the world to Christmas today.

My colleague Astrid Wuttge has learned from the story of the children in the "Rauhe Haus" and
invention of the Advent wreath, which
as part of a teaching block and perform on Sunday, December 14
reindeer. Together we will transform the Aua Viva into the "Hamburg port landscape" and
rejoice in every light that shines in it.

We will close the celebration with a "shared tea" - everyone will bring something to eat, which we will have to
a buffet and share with each other.
