What moves Parc Ela? As part of the monthly lecture series "Parc Ela en muvimaint", this time the focus is on a shy yet fascinating inhabitant of our forests: the capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus), also known as the "King of the Mountain Forest".

Sergio Wellenzohn, Academic Assistant at the Office for Hunting and Fishing Graubünden and President of the Landquart Bird Protection Association, takes us into the world of grouse. In his lecture, he provides insights into the life of the legendary capercaillie, from impressive courtship rituals in spring to the challenges that this fascinating bird species has to overcome today in our alpine forests.
The focus of the lecture will be:
• Habitat and way of life of the capercaillie
• Causes of endangerment: habitat loss, recreational pressure, climate change
• Conservation projects in the canton of Graubünden and in Parc Ela
• Why the capercaillie is considered a "pointer species" for intact mountain forests


The lecture impressively shows how closely the fate of the capercaillie is linked to the management of our forests and to our behaviour as nature visitors - and what measures are necessary to preserve this rare animal in the Alps in the future.
