The Mondrian Ensemble dedicates its 3rd season program to music for string trio from Finland. It aims to sharpen the senses for the extraordinarily rich musical landscape from this country, from which so many important personalities emerged. In addition to the unfinished but nevertheless representative one-movement string trio by Jean Sibelius, the trio by Erkki Melartin, a contemporary of Sibelius, will also be heard. Kaija Saariaho has added an important contribution to the string trio repertoire with her "Cloud Trio" from 2009, and music from the younger generation is also played with "Sinne" by Lotta Wennäkoski. In addition, "Beyond Cloud", a new work by the Finnish viol player, improviser and composer Anna-Kaisa Meklin, who lives in Basel, was created especially for this programme.
