Event San Bernardino Mesolcina Calanca
Conferenza sull'attualità archeologica grigionese

Description
This year, Patrick Cassitti from the Graubünden Archaeological Service will present the early medieval wall paintings of Rhaetia Curiense (an ancient region that included not only modern Graubünden but also territories now located in Italy and Austria) which represent one of the most significant and best-preserved heritage sites in Europe. Thanks to a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, activated in 2022 and now at an advanced stage, it is currently possible to examine more precisely the origin, production techniques and construction processes of these works, through a series of in situ and ex situ analyses on materials. Comparing multiple sites offers a comparative perspective on a regional scale, helping to fill an important gap in previous studies. At the same time, digital communication tools, physical and augmented reality reconstructions of the original polychromies are being developed, in order to enhance the results and make them accessible to both specialists and a wider audience.
Refreshments will be offered at the end of the evening.
