Design am Rhein: Studio Eidola in Andeer

‍In Andeer, they present their research from the quarry with "Tectonic Dusts" using objects and material samples.

Tectonic Dusts is an investigation into the mineral by-products that arise during the quarrying and processing of natural stone in Andeer, Switzerland. The stone's journey - from quarry to end product - involves numerous processing steps, each of which contributes to the creation of waste material. While some offcuts could potentially be reused and cause no significant environmental damage if landfilled, a significant proportion of the waste consists of cutting and grinding dust.

As part of this initiative, Studio Eidola is developing a possible way to reuse stone processing waste as building materials - from bricks to tiles. The project sees itself not only as a contribution to practical solutions, but also as an impulse to change habitual perceptions by making visible the previously unnoticed potential of what is commonly regarded as waste.

Studio Eidola started the research in 2024 and this year presents the first results as documentary video and physical bricks.
