Women's life in a high valley.

EXPERIENCE | READING

Angelika Overath has visited women in the Engadine who hardly appear in the media, even though they shape everyday life in the valley: the kindergarten teacher, the hut attendant, the sauna and pool attendant, the end-of-life companion, the manager of an alternative hotel, the cleaning lady, the doctor, the ski instructor. The result is 18 intense portraits. Some of the women were born in the Engadine, others moved here. Your individual life stories are touching and encouraging, because each of them was faced with a decision. At the same time, the round dance of images of women opens up questions about home and integration. The focus is on the future of a valley that has to keep trying new ways between tourism and tradition.

.

Angelika Overath is an award-winning author who has been translated into many languages; she lives in Sent, where she runs a school for creative writing with her husband, the literary scholar and essayist Manfred Koch.
