What happens before slopes and terrain are opened?

Nick Amrein, Head of Slope Operations, Rescue and Avalanche Services at LAAX Ski Patrol, takes you into the fascinating world of avalanche blasting and shows how targeted measures are used to control dangerous snow masses. You’ll gain exciting insights into the technology behind avalanche blasting, learn when it is used and how it helps reduce risk in exposed areas. Step by step, Nick explains the blasting process, the required equipment and why planning, timing and safety distances are crucial. This gives you a clear sense of how complex and responsible this work is – and why avalanche blasting is a key part of avalanche prevention.

This talk is part of the Freeride Festival Flims Laax – an event that brings together deep powder, creativity and alpine adventure in a unique format.
