Church of San Giachem - History and Architecture, in cooperation with Open Doors Engadin 2025.

A church in Bever was first mentioned in a document in 1334 as 'ecclesia Sti. Jacobi'. This predecessor church had the entrance on the frescoed west wall. The Gothic frescoes from the middle of the 14th century - they are significantly older than those in San Gian Celerina, Fex-Crasta, San Andrea Chamues-ch and San Bastiaun Zuoz - represent a unique cultural asset in the Engadine. The church was redesigned for the first time in 1501, shortly after the Swabian War. In its present form and form from 1667, the Reformed Church of San Giachem Bever is the only choirless - surprisingly west-facing - baroque hall church in the Engadine. In and around the church there are many, partly hidden treasures and parallels to the churches in Promontogno and Celerina/Schlarigna to discover.

The meeting point is Sunday, June 29, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in front of the church of San Giachem in Bever. Guided tour: Walter Isler. Duration of the tour 45-60 minutes.
