In June, the Tour de Suisse stops in Mesolcina

Thursday 19 June - Stage 5: La Punt - Santa Maria in Calanca (184.5 km)

It is undoubtedly the toughest stage of this Tour de Suisse, almost a stage (about 3500 meters in 184.5 km with two passages over 2000 meters) but with a not very epic finale, however intriguing. In less than 20 km of valley floor you arrive at the foot of the Julierpass (7.2 km at 6.7%, first 1700 meters at 9.5%, max 11%), followed by a long descent of 36 km interrupted by various counter-slopes. You then arrive in Thusis where you go up to the village of Splugen from the same road as the previous day, this time to go straight towards the San Bernardino Pass: in all the road climbs for 45 km at 3%; the first 25 abundant are the same as described for the previous stage, but in Splugen you stay in the valley for a further 12 km (average 1.4%) before finally climbing to the pace with the last 7.5 km at 6%. Another endless descent of 25 km follows, then 15 km of valley floor in favor up to Grono. Here you enter the circuit to face the final climb twice; in truth, the first time will only partially climb up to Castaneda (4.5 km at 9.8% with peaks up to 15%), with the KOM located 21.6 km from the finish. After a 5km descent, a very articulated but flat stretch of 8 km allows you to skirt the historic center of Roveredo and return to Grono, where you climb, this time to the finish line (6.3 km at 9.5%, peaks at 15% in the stretch before Castaneda; slightly more affordable gradients in the final part, between 8% and 10%)
