The respected industrialist Hans Meyer is murdered in a hotel suite without any apparent motive. Shortly afterwards, the 70-year-old Italian Maurizio Collini, who has lived in Germany for over 30 years, turns himself in to the police. The inexperienced lawyer Caspar Leinen is assigned to him as public defender. Its chances are very poor. But as the murder trial slowly unfolds, Leinen uncovers an unbelievable judicial scandal.
