The glaciers of the Eastern Alps are dying – irreversibly, science agrees. Experts warn of the changing conditions, and adjustments must be made in many areas. But while the "eternal ice" is disappearing and the permafrost is dissolving, tourism is booming. In summer, visitors crowd into glacier lifts to get as close as possible to the glacier. In winter, skiing is in full swing, and the interventions in nature take on more and more drastic forms: slope stabilization, covers, snow deposits, artificial snowmaking systems, massive terrain leveling - a race against time.

With REQUIEM IN WEISS, Harry Putz stages a haunting cinematic homage to the dying of the glaciers in the Alps. Through in-depth interviews, he interweaves science and emotion into an oppressive documentary. Shot on 14 glaciers in Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, the film asks the inevitable question at the end: How do we want to say goodbye to our glaciers?
