Riesiges Atommüllfass in Chur

Greenpeace is touring Switzerland with an oversized nuclear waste barrel. In doing so, the environmental organisation is creating a "space for home" and, together with the population and artists, is transforming the atomic barrel into a symbol of the energy transition without nuclear power. The Federal Council wants to allow the construction of new nuclear power plants again – thus sabotaging the energy transition towards renewable energies. But Switzerland can cover its energy needs with sun, water and wind. Renewable energies are home energies.

This Saturday, September 20, 2025, the barrel will be set up in Chur on Arcasplatz. The yellow atomic barrel, made entirely of wood, is 4.5 meters high and has a circumference of over 17 meters. From 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the population is invited to come by and talk about their homeland and energy wishes. Visitors can formulate their wishes and hang them up in the barrel, find out about hydropower, solar energy and wind power and take part in the nuclear quiz.
