Storytelling coffee with Gioconda Segantini

Description
on Sunday
The Vaz/Obervaz Museum will showcase works by the artist Gottardo Segantini *1882 †1974 starting in July 2025
The artist Gottardo Guido Segantini was born on May 25, 1882, in Pusiano. He was the eldest of four children of the world-famous Alpine painter Giovanni Segantini. In 1894 – five years before the father's death – the Segantini family moved to Maloja to the Kuoni chalet. This Graubünden village and the house became Gottardo Segantini's home from then on. He lived there until the end of his life. The room that served as a library during his father's lifetime was converted into a studio by Gottardo Segantini.
Gottardo Segantini's artistic training came partly from his famous father, and partly as an academy student in Milan. He also received lessons from the Zurich artist Hermann Gattiker. Undoubtedly, his style was significantly influenced by his father's work, and his paintings clearly show a close artistic relationship with Giovanni Segantini. Both artists shared a profound connection to the Engadin, whose landscapes were captured in numerous works by both.
Apart from his painting activities, Gottardo Segantini also engaged in the art of etching. Here too, he consciously referenced his father: in addition to his own works, he often used his father's paintings as subjects for his engravings, thus continuing the path of Giovanni Segantini.
Gottardo Segantini was among those artists who also engaged in writing about their craft. As a true art writer, he authored, among other things, a biography of his father.
Gottardo Segantini passed away in Maloja on June 16, 1974.
